It all started with a leak

Cody and I realized that every time it rained, water dripped from our bedroom ceiling. We had a leak in our 60+ year old roof (Who would of thought?!).

When Cody went on the roof it was obvious that it would not be an easy patch work fix, so we “get” to fix our roof.
We made sure that we were as prepared as possible, we got a building permit, a grundle of supplies from HomeDepot and a huge dumpster to put the old roof it. Can’t you tell Cody loves his presents?

First we had to take the old roof off, we had to shovel off all the gravel, rip up the tar, and remove any nails or debris.

When the roof was clean, we needed to lay down a new sturdy plywood base; the old plywood was weak and bound to collapse if anyone stood on it wrong.

After the new base, the girls got to nail down the synfelt (high grade felt substitute). The synfelt is a water barrier for the house. Mom, Amanda, and I got this barrier down, while the boys did the more difficult task.

After some dispute with the city building inspector we were finally able to put on the top layer of our roof! It took us a total of 3 week but finaly we have a wonderful, safe roof.

Fine no leaks. Just like we hoped. Thank you so much for helping with the roof.
